Warriors go through with four-team trade, acquiring Payton

Despite worries over the guard’s health following offseason surgery for a core muscle ailment that sidelined him until last month, the Golden State Warriors have opted to complete a deal to acquire Gary Payton II from Portland.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the Warriors contacted the NBA on Sunday to discuss the Trail Blazers’ handling of the trade and the details of Payton’s medical problem after the latter’s physical on Friday revealed difficulties that threatened to derail the transaction. Because of the sensitive nature of the conversations and discussions, the source talked to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The time limit for the reigning champs to reverse the trade that sent center James Wiseman to the Detroit Pistons expired late Sunday night. Golden State will send Portland its own 2028 second-round draft pick and Memphis’ 2026 second-round pick in exchange for Portland’s 2026 second-round pick and Golden State’s own 2028 second-round pick.

In exchange for forward Saddiq Bey, the Pistons sent three conditional second-round selections to the Hawks, while the Blazers received forward Kevin Knox II from Detroit.
