Doncic scores 39, Mavs rally for 111-106 over Houston
On Monday night, Luka Doncic led the Dallas Mavericks with 39 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists as Dallas overcame an 18-point second-half deficit to upset the Houston Rockets 111-106.
Doncic sparked the comeback with 29 of his total points in the second half. He shot 10/26 from the field, missing on all nine of his 3-point attempts, and made 18/22 free throws.
Doncic: “I was not scared in the first half, I simply needed to be more aggressive.” That’s what I did in the second half, anyhow. It didn’t go well for us when I took a passive role in the first half.
Doncic has had three 50-point outings in the previous six games and has averaged 32 points per game over that stretch.
Doncic remarked, “Winning is always fantastic.” Seven consecutive victories is impressive, especially given the high morale in the locker room, but we have higher goals. Despite how poorly we performed tonight, great teams always find a way to win.
Dallas has won seven straight games, their best winning run since the 2010-11 season. Christian Wood contributed 21 points, while Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 21.
“To win seven (straight) in this league, it’s not easy to win in this league, it’s easy to lose in this league, but it’s hard to win,” said Jason Kidd, the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks and a member of the club in 2010-11.
