It’s Embiid vs. Doncic for scoring title in NBA’s final week

The NBA scoring champion will be an overseas player for the second time.

That will be the second occasion inside a year.

Cameroonian-born Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers is on the verge of winning back-to-back scoring titles, though Dallas’ Luka Doncic may give him a run for his money.

Embiid gained some breathing room on Sunday, when he scored 28 points in the 76ers’ defeat to the Bucks and Doncic, a Slovenian, scored 28 points in the Mavericks’ overtime loss to the Hawks.

Embiid has scored 2,110 points in 64 games, averaging 32.97 points per game. Doncic has scored 2,096 points in 64 games, for an average of 32.75 points per game.

Philadelphia has four left games, while Dallas has only three. Monday was a day off for the NBA in observance of the Division I men’s championship game.

Damian Lillard of Portland ranks third in scoring with 32.2 points per game. He will finish with that average, since the Trail Blazers have shut him down for the remainder of the season due to their elimination from postseason contention.

Even if Embiid and Doncic are held scoreless in a game, their averages would not fall below Lillard’s.
