Monk scores 33, hits winning free throw as Kings top Nuggets
The Sacramento Kings overcame a 19-point deficit late in the third quarter to upset the Denver Nuggets 127-126 on Wednesday night, thanks in large part to 33 points from Malik Monk, who also hit the game-winning free throw with 0.7 seconds remaining.
Monk added, “I was chatting to my old teammate, DeAndre Jordan, the whole time,” while shooting the last free throws. To be honest, I really thought I was going to make the basket from that free throw. My final step was to secure my position and press the following button. Not more than two in a row without an excuse.
For Denver, 40 points came from Nikola Jokic, who, with a few seconds left, missed a 3-pointer at the top of the key.
In his opinion, Sacramento “performed pretty well,” Jokic remarked. It wasn’t the work of a single perpetrator. A some of them we just couldn’t stop.
De’Aaron Fox scored 31 points and dished out 13 assists, while Domantas Sabonis scored 31 points, grabbed 10 boards, and dished out 5 assists in his return to the starting lineup. The Kings’ home record was 1-3.
Fox referred to Sabonis as having a “broken thumb” to use an extreme example. In spite of everything, he walked out there, which speaks volumes about his resolve and resolve. He’s focused on triumph. He didn’t come here thinking only about the long term; he wants to win games right now.
The Nuggets competed without Murray, Gordon, and Brown. Their string of five consecutive victories came to an end.
